Year 5 Isle of Wight 2026

Hello parents/carers!

Here you will find updates on how your wonderful children are getting along! We will aim to upload every evening but don't panic if it's not there straight away, we are extremely busy.

Kind regards,

Mr Langdon, Miss Richardson, Miss Uranie and Mrs Patel

Day 1

Our Isle of Wight adventure got off to a fantastic start today, with excitement building from the moment we set off early this morning. After a smooth journey and private boat crossing, students were thrilled to catch their first glimpse of the island’s stunning coastline.

A special mention must go to the children for how well they conducted themselves while walking through Gunwharf Quays. They were polite, sensible, and represented the school brilliantly in a busy public space.

Before beginning our first activity, everyone enjoyed a well-earned lunch, giving students the chance to recharge and take in their new surroundings.

Our first activity was water confidence, and it certainly set the tone for the trip. Students showed great determination and resilience as they took to the water, supporting and encouraging one another throughout. Some of the children were especially brave, even jumping off the jetty and having a go on the slip and slide—an exciting challenge that was met with lots of smiles and laughter.

After settling into our accommodation and enjoying a well-earned meal, we headed out for some crabbing. It was a fun and relaxing way to end the day, and the children were delighted to successfully catch three crabs.

Now they are enjoying a bedtime story in their onesies and pjs before a well deserved night of sleep.

There seems to have been some technical issues in uploading Day 2 . Our apologies! Below are updates for Day 2 and Day 3.

Day 2

Day 2 began with a memorable (and very energetic!) musical wake-up call from Mr Langdon, which certainly got everyone up and ready for the day ahead. After getting dressed, everyone enjoyed a hot breakfast to fuel them for a busy day ahead.

The morning activity was kayaking, and it was packed with fun from start to finish. The children took part in a range of games on the water, building confidence and working together as a team. To top it off, some children showed real bravery by even asking to be capsized—an exciting moment that brought plenty of laughter and a real sense of achievement.

In the afternoon, the children took part in dry team-building activities, which challenged them to think creatively and work collaboratively. There was lots of laughter as students tackled each task, demonstrating excellent teamwork and problem-solving skills.

Then in the evening, after a full and active day, everyone wound down in their pyjamas, enjoying a well-earned evening watching Moana. A perfect end to another fantastic day on the Isle of Wight!

Day 3

After another memorable musical wake-up call from Mr Langdon—this time featuring a very energetic rendition of Happy Birthday for Itanife—the day got off to a lively start. Following breakfast, the group split for their morning activities, with half of the children beginning with paddleboarding while the other half took to the water for keelboating.

Both activities were full of excitement and new experiences. During the keelboating sessions, children had the opportunity to help raise the sails and even take a turn steering, showing great teamwork and confidence on the water. Meanwhile, those paddleboarding demonstrated impressive balance and determination, with plenty of smiles along the way.

After meeting back up for lunch, the groups swapped activities so that everyone had the chance to experience both paddleboarding and keelboating.

Before the evening activities began, everyone came together once again to celebrate Itanife’s birthday. The group sang Happy Birthday as Itanife blew out the candles, followed by everyone enjoying some delicious birthday cake—kindly provided by Itanife’s family.

To round off the day, the children are heading off to take part in some competitive sports games, a great way to burn off the last of their energy. After another action-packed day, we’re hoping for a good night’s sleep as we look ahead to our final full day on the island.

Please bare with us if there is a delay in updates, the wifi a little spotty! But we will get them up as quickly as we can.

Day 4

Today began with a quieter and calmer wake-up before everyone headed off for breakfast, ready for another busy day.

The morning activity was our walk to Cowes in the sunshine, which made for a lovely start to the day. Once there, the children spent time on the beach enjoying football, skipping stones, and plenty more seaside fun. On the way back, we stopped at an ice cream shop, where the owner commented on how exceptional the children were—something we were all very proud to hear!

After lunch back at the centre, it was time for the final water activity: raft building. Students worked together brilliantly before putting their creations to the test in some exciting races. The session finished with another go at the slip and slide and then finally a splash war, which was a big hit and full of laughter.

Now, the children are enjoying a well-earned disco to round off another fantastic day.

Stay tuned for some disco photos later!

After a fun filled evening at the disco, complete with glow sticks and face paints everyone is enjoying listening to Mr Langdon reading a story for our final night. Some very sleepy children ready for their bed.
