Role of the governing body
The governing body has three core functions:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
- Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
- Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
This means the governing body works in close partnership with the Headteacher to set overall objectives and monitor progress. The Headteacher is responsible for the day-to-day operational management of the school.
Structure of the governing body
School governors are volunteers from a range of groups across the school and local community, including parents and staff. Governors can be contacted via email -> clerk@poundhilljunior.org.uk
Learning and Teaching Committee
The Learning and Teaching committee ensures that strategies are in place to raise achievement for all pupils, with high quality teaching and learning across all year groups. This includes checking that the curriculum meets pupils’ needs and that there is reliable assessment and tracking information for all learners. The committee monitors the progress of all groups of pupils against targets for attainment and progress that are agreed with the Headteacher.
Resources Committee
The Resources committee provides strategic direction and oversight of the school’s finances, working in partnership with the Headteacher and Business Manager to ensure that the budget is managed effectively. The committee is responsible for overseeing the upkeep of the school buildings and facilities, including any accessibility, security and health and safety issues. The committee also ensures that the recruitment and retention of staff meets the needs of the school.
Safeguarding and Disadvantaged Pupils Committee
The Safeguarding committee ensures that safeguarding policies and procedures are in place and are regularly monitored and evaluated, in order to protect and promote the welfare of all children. This includes the quality of provision for pupils with Special Educational Needs. The committee ensures that recruitment and training for all members of the school community is carried in accordance with best practice and the law.
